7 Signs It's Time to Move From Excel to an ERP
Excel is a great helper when a business starts out. But as a company grows, spreadsheets multiply, errors pile up and reporting takes days. If a few of the signs below sound familiar, it's time to think about an ERP.

Almost every business starts with Excel: the customer list, stock levels, sales tracking — all in spreadsheets. That's natural and very convenient at first. The problem is that Excel wasn't built for teamwork or growing processes.
1. The same data lives in several files
Sales has one file, the warehouse another, accounting a third. The numbers differ slightly in each, and nobody knows for sure which one is right.
2. "Which version is the latest?"
The file gets sent around in a messenger, someone edits it, someone else keeps working in an old copy. You end up with files named "final_2_fixed" — and that's where mistakes begin.
3. Reports take days to prepare
When management asks for the monthly numbers, someone spends days pulling figures from different spreadsheets. By the time the report is ready, the data is already out of date.
4. Stock levels don't match reality
The spreadsheet says an item is in stock, the warehouse says it isn't — or the other way round. A salesperson promises delivery and later has to apologise.
5. When an employee leaves, the knowledge leaves too
Only one person understands the complex formulas and sheets. When they go on holiday or quit, the process stops.
6. Nobody knows who changed what
When a price or stock figure changes in Excel, it's hard to trace who did it and when. An ERP keeps a full change history and restricts access rights by department.
7. Customers slip through the cracks
Follow-up calls get forgotten and quotes aren't tracked. Every lost customer is lost revenue.
The next step
If three or more of these sound familiar, spreadsheets have started slowing your business down. Moving to Odoo doesn't have to happen all at once: most companies start with the most painful area — CRM or inventory — and add other modules later. Your existing Excel data is imported into Odoo. In a free consultation, we'll review your processes and tell you which module to start with.
